in Creating a Child-Friendly Environment

The city of Guri, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun) announced that starting from the 3rd, it will begin accepting applications for the ‘Gyeonggi-type Family Care Allowance,’ which provides up to 600,000 KRW per month to relatives within the fourth degree of kinship (such as grandparents) or neighboring residents who care for children aged 24 to under 48 months.

This project, co-funded 50% each by Gyeonggi Province and the city, was implemented in June 2024 to support about 200 households. This year, a total budget of approximately 170 million KRW, including Gyeonggi Province’s budget, will be invested. The support target is about 145 households.

The caregiver (father or mother) and the child (aged 24 to under 48 months) must be registered residents of Guri City, and the household must experience a caregiving gap due to dual-income or similar circumstances. There is no income restriction.

Care assistants receiving the care allowance, such as grandparents within the fourth degree of kinship, may reside in other local governments, but neighboring residents who are considered social family members must live in the same eup, myeon, or dong (administrative district) as the target child and must have been Guri citizens residing at the same eup, myeon, or dong address for over one year.

If selected as a care assistant, one must register as a member on the ‘Gyeonggi Lifelong Learning Portal (GSEEK)’ before starting care activities and complete mandatory education on child safety, child abuse prevention, and fraud prevention. When performing care for 40 hours or more per month, support is provided as follows: 300,000 KRW per month for one child, 450,000 KRW for two children, and 600,000 KRW for three children.

From the 1st to the 10th of each month (applications start from February 3rd for the first month), the caregiver (father or mother) can apply on ‘Gyeonggi Minwon 24’ with a power of attorney from the care assistant. For detailed inquiries, contact the Guri City Family Welfare Division or the relevant administrative welfare center.

Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun of Guri City stated, “The Gyeonggi-type Family Care Allowance is a policy that respects the social value of child-rearing and supports practical care assistants whom families experiencing caregiving gaps due to dual-income or multiple children can trust. Guri City will actively lead efforts to fill the blind spots in child care, alleviate the burden of parenting, and create a child-friendly environment.”
