Hana Financial Group Achieves Highest Rating in MSCI ESG Assessment

Upgraded Two Levels from A to AAA Since 2021
Achieved No. 1 Globally in the Banking Industry Sector

Hana Financial Group announced on the 3rd that it received the highest rating of 'AAA' in the 2024 ESG evaluation announced by Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI), a global ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) rating agency, on the 28th of last month (local time).

With this, Hana Financial Group achieved a remarkable improvement of two levels to the highest AAA rating in just three years since receiving an A rating in the MSCI evaluation in 2021, the first year it declared its mid- to long-term ESG strategy.

Additionally, as of the announcement date, it recorded the highest score of 7.6 among global banks whose '2024 MSCI ESG evaluation' ratings have been finalized, surpassing leading global banks worldwide and achieving first place globally in the banking industry sector.

MSCI, the world's largest ESG fund benchmark provider and an internationally authoritative body in ESG evaluation, has been assessing the ESG performance of approximately 8,500 listed companies worldwide annually since 1999. It evaluates 10 themes and 35 key issues across the environmental, social, and governance areas, assigning ratings on a seven-level scale from AAA to CCC based on the evaluation results.

In this evaluation, Hana Financial Group was recognized for excellence in governance through ▲enhancing board independence and transparency ▲strengthening anti-corruption and ethical management, and received top-level global evaluations across various fields such as ▲financial education for children, foreign international students, and senior customers ▲expanding win-win finance with small business owners, self-employed individuals, and financially vulnerable groups.

Meanwhile, Hana Financial Group was ranked first globally in the banking industry sector in the 2022 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) evaluation, has been included in the top-tier 'DJSI World Index' for three consecutive years as of 2024, and has also received the Sector Honours Club award for four consecutive years in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) evaluation.
