According to reports, flames erupted under one wing of the plane as it was taxiing to the runway in preparation for takeoff. However, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
There were 104 passengers and 5 crew members on board the flight. Immediately after the incident, passengers evacuated via boarding stairs and emergency slides, and no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
A video capturing the situation was also released. The footage, believed to have been taken by a passenger on the plane, shows flames and smoke rising from the engine under the wing as the plane was moving for takeoff.
Ashlyn Sharp, a passenger on the flight, said, "I heard a loud noise as I was trying to sleep, and I felt the plane shake. It sounded like something flew into the engine. Everyone was terrified." Sharp added, "When I looked out the window, I saw the engine and wing on fire. There was also a smell of smoke inside the plane." He said, "People were screaming and trying to get out quickly. When passengers started crying, I became anxious too. It was a nightmare."
Sharp said, "At first, the flight attendants told passengers to stay seated, but when they realized we could no longer remain in our seats, they evacuated us via the rear emergency slide. We then had to stay on the runway for two and a half hours." He expressed relief, saying, "I hope it was just an accident. I'm glad everyone is safe."
