Dongjak-gu Enhances Public Cable Maintenance to Ensure 'Resident Safety and Urban Aesthetics'

Continuing the Maintenance Project This Year
in Collaboration with Related Organizations

Dongjak-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 3rd that it has conducted a comprehensive cleanup of aerial cables scattered throughout the urban area to prevent safety accidents and improve the cityscape.

The aerial cable maintenance project involves organizing tangled electric and communication wires resembling spider webs over roads and buildings and removing unnecessary lines. Over the past year, the district maintained a total of 20,660 meters and 445 utility poles in areas including Gangnam Elementary School, Sangdo-ro 60-gil, Seongdae-ro 6ga-gil, and Heukseok-ro 5-gil.

The maintenance zones were prioritized after demand surveys and on-site inspections by neighborhood, focusing on narrow alleys and areas near aging residential neighborhoods. Subsequently, the district collaborated with seven related organizations, including Korea Electric Power Corporation, KT, LGU+, and SKT, to dismantle abandoned and unnecessary lines and organize the proliferated incoming lines, taking the lead in ensuring pedestrian safety.

This year, the district will continue the ‘Aerial Cable Maintenance Project.’ To facilitate smooth maintenance, quarterly meetings with project operators will be held, and the priority maintenance areas will be reviewed along with discussions on any difficulties encountered.

Mayor Park Il-ha stated, “We will continue to promote aerial cable maintenance to improve the walking environment and create a pleasant cityscape,” adding, “We will continue to implement various policies to make Dongjak-gu a clean and safe city.”
