Yongin City Renews Citizen Safety Insurance This Year... Up to 20 Million KRW Payout

Covers 14 Types Including Disasters, Accidents, and Injuries
Compensation Available When Claimed Within 3 Years of the Incident

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 3rd that it will operate the 'Citizen Safety Insurance' again this year, following last year, to compensate citizens who have suffered damage due to disasters or injuries.

Citizen Safety Insurance is a system that allows any Yongin citizen with an address in the city to receive compensation without any separate subscription procedures or cost burdens. Registered foreigners and overseas Koreans with domestic residence reports are also included. Regardless of where the accident occurs nationwide, if applied for within 3 years from the date of the accident, insurance payments of up to 20 million KRW can be received.

The coverage items include 14 types such as ▲natural disasters ▲social disasters ▲explosions, fires, collapses, landslides ▲use of public transportation ▲sexual violence crimes ▲injuries excluding traffic injuries ▲injury accident diagnosis lump sum ▲school zone traffic accidents ▲silver zone traffic accidents, among others.

Depending on the accident case, insurance payments can be received for multiple items within the 14 coverage categories, and overlapping compensation is possible regardless of disaster relief funds or coverage from other personal insurance policies.

To this end, the city has formed a consortium with five insurance companies including Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance and signed insurance contracts. The coverage period is one year from this month until January next year.

Insurance claims can be submitted by the affected party or their representative to the Citizen Safety Insurance Integrated Call Center by submitting the relevant documents without any separate subscription procedures. Last year, 404 citizens benefited from the Citizen Safety Insurance. The total insurance payments amounted to 156.05 million KRW.

A city official stated, "We decided to operate the Citizen Safety Insurance again this year to help citizens who have suffered from unexpected accidents or various disasters recover quickly to their daily lives," urging citizens to actively utilize the program.
