Recruitment of 120 Young People Aged 18 to 34 with No Employment or Training History for Over 6 Months
‘Youth Challenge Support Project’ Launched...
Up to 3.5 Million KRW in Employment Support Provided for Completing Customized Job Support Programs Including Career and Job Exploration Consulting, Resume Writing Education, and Mentoring by Current Workers
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that it will promote the ‘2025 Youth Challenge Support Project’ for young people who have lost confidence in employment and given up job searching.
The ‘Youth Challenge Support Project’ is a Ministry of Employment and Labor public contest project that aims to revive the job-seeking motivation of young people who have lost confidence and given up job searching due to prolonged job preparation periods, and to support employment by providing customized programs.
As the number of young people in a state of ‘just resting’ without work or job searching is increasing recently, the district will recruit a total of 120 young people who have given up job searching on a first-come, first-served basis this year to enhance their job-seeking capabilities and support active participation in economic and social activities.
The support targets are young people aged 18 to 34 who have no employment, education, or vocational training history for the past six months and scored 21 points or more (out of 30) on the job abandonment questionnaire, including youth preparing for independence (children who have aged out of protection), youth entering or leaving youth shelters, and North Korean defectors.
Although not eligible under the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s application criteria (ages 18?34), young people included in the youth range under local government ordinances as regionally specialized youth can also apply. Therefore, young people aged 35 to 39 under the ‘Seongdong-gu Youth Basic Ordinance’ who meet the job abandonment questionnaire criteria can receive support. Part-time workers working less than 30 hours per week are also eligible to apply.
The ‘Youth Challenge Support Project’ offers various programs such as career and job exploration consulting, resume writing education, and mentoring by current workers, divided into three types: short-term (40 hours), mid-term (120 hours), and long-term courses (over 200 hours). Upon completion, participants receive participation allowances and incentives ranging from 500,000 KRW to a maximum of 3,500,000 KRW depending on the course.
First, the short-term program targets 30 young people with job-seeking experience who want to prepare for employment in a short period. It provides intensive counseling, case management, confidence recovery, career exploration, and employment capability enhancement programs totaling 40 hours over 5 weeks. Participants receive a participation allowance of 500,000 KRW upon completion.
The mid-term program adds regionally specialized programs to the short-term program and runs for 3 months totaling 120 hours. It targets 60 young people, and completers receive a total of up to 2,200,000 KRW, including a participation allowance of 1,500,000 KRW (500,000 KRW per month), a completion incentive of 200,000 KRW, and an employment incentive of 500,000 KRW.
The long-term program targets 30 young people with little job-seeking experience who need long-term employment preparation, running for 5 months totaling 200 hours. Completers receive a total of up to 3,500,000 KRW, including a participation allowance of 2,500,000 KRW (500,000 KRW per month), a completion incentive of 200,000 KRW, a job-seeking activity incentive of 300,000 KRW, and an employment incentive of 500,000 KRW.
Last year, a total of 97 people participated in the ‘Youth Challenge Support Project,’ with 85 completing the program. After completion, follow-up management such as job information guidance and encouragement to participate in related projects was conducted for three months, resulting in 47 completers continuing job-seeking activities through programs like the National Employment System, and 13 successfully finding employment, achieving the intended outcomes.
The ‘Youth Challenge Support Project’ program is scheduled to run from March 20 to November, and applications can be submitted through the project executing agencies ‘Seoul Youth Center Seongdong’ or the ‘Employment24’ website.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “Through the ‘Youth Challenge Support Project,’ we hope that young people isolated by not being able to cross the threshold of employment can become healthy and independent members of society,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to promote customized support policies that enhance young people’s job-seeking capabilities.”
Jungnang-gu, Eco-friendly Strawberry Farm Experience for Children
Held from February 5 to May 7 for 5-year-old classes in local daycare centers
This year, newly launched ‘Healing Together Strawberry Experience’ for children with disabilities
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) will conduct eco-friendly strawberry farm experience education for children at the intelligent strawberry farm (smart farm) located in Jungnang Happiness 1 Farm in Sinnae-dong from February 5.
Now in its fourth year, the strawberry experience education provides urban children with an opportunity to become familiar with urban agriculture, offering not only the joy and pleasure of harvesting but also the valuable lesson of appreciating nature, making it very popular among many children.
The education will be held for 5-year-old classes in local daycare centers from February 5 to May 7, with a participation fee of 1,000 KRW per child. The approximately one-hour program includes learning about the characteristics and harvesting methods of strawberry crops, observing the growth and cultivation process such as strawberry flowers and fruits, and experiencing harvesting by tasting the aroma and flavor.
Especially, the newly launched ‘Healing Together Strawberry Experience’ is a program for culturally vulnerable groups, targeting children with disabilities and their parents in the local community. It is designed to support the healthy emotional development of children with disabilities and provide families with an opportunity to heal together. The Healing Together Strawberry Experience will be held on February 19, with a participation fee of 1,000 KRW per child. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through the Jungnang-gu website by 6 p.m. on February 7.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “We hope children will create sweet memories through the strawberry experience and that positive memories of urban agriculture will serve as a foundation for their healthy growth,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to enable children from various environments to experience urban agriculture.”
