[Weather] Severe Cold Despite 'Ipchun'... Feels Like Around -10 Degrees

On the 3rd, the solar term 'Ipchun,' which marks the beginning of spring, is expected to bring severe cold nationwide, with the perceived temperature dropping to around minus 10 degrees Celsius.

The lowest temperatures across the country on the morning of the 3rd are expected to range from minus 12 degrees to 2 degrees Celsius, and the highest daytime temperatures are forecasted to be between minus 6 degrees and 5 degrees Celsius.

The morning low temperatures will be minus 7 degrees in Seoul, minus 6 degrees in Incheon, minus 8 degrees in Chuncheon, minus 7 degrees in Wonju, minus 5 degrees in Sejong, minus 4 degrees in Daejeon, minus 2 degrees in Jeonju, minus 1 degree in Gwangju, minus 1 degree in Daegu, and 2 degrees in Busan, dropping compared to the previous day (minus 9 to 4 degrees Celsius).

The perceived temperature is expected to fall further due to strong winds. Morning wind chill temperatures will be minus 13 degrees in Seoul, minus 14 degrees in Incheon, minus 10 degrees in Chuncheon, minus 11 degrees in Wonju, minus 9 degrees in Sejong, minus 8 degrees in Daejeon, minus 6 degrees in Jeonju, minus 5 degrees in Gwangju and Daegu, and minus 3 degrees in Busan.

The sky will be mostly cloudy nationwide but will gradually clear from the morning. The western coast of Chungnam, Jeolla region, and Jeju Island will remain mostly cloudy.

Snow will fall from dawn to morning in eastern Gyeonggi, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, Chungbuk, northern Jeonnam, and Jeonbuk. Light snow flurries less than 0.1 cm may occur in Seoul, Incheon, western Gyeonggi, Chungnam, southern Jeonnam, inland Gyeongbuk, and western inland Gyeongnam.

From morning, rain or snow is expected in Jeju Island, with snow falling in the Jeolla region from late afternoon and on the western coast of Chungnam at night.

Expected snowfall (precipitation) from dawn to morning on the 3rd is around 1 cm (less than 1 mm) in eastern Gyeonggi, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, Chungbuk, and eastern Jeonbuk.

Expected snowfall (precipitation) from the night of the 3rd to the 4th is forecasted as follows: around 1 cm (less than 1 mm) in the West Sea 5 Islands, 3 to 8 cm (around 5 mm) on the western coast of Chungnam, 5 to 10 cm (5 to 15 mm) on the western coast and southern inland of Jeonbuk, 3 to 8 cm (less than 5 mm) in northern inland Jeonbuk, Gwangju, and western Jeonnam, 1 to 5 cm (less than 5 mm) in eastern Jeonnam, 5 to 20 cm (5 to 20 mm) on Ulleungdo and Dokdo, 5 to 15 cm in Jeju Island’s mountainous areas, 5 to 10 cm in Jeju Island’s mid-mountain areas, and 1 to 5 cm (5 to 20 mm in Jeju Island) along the Jeju coastal areas.
