Two fishing vessels ran aground off the coast of Jeju, resulting in one death and three missing among the total 15 crew members. The Coast Guard is currently conducting a search for the missing persons.


According to the Jeju Coast Guard on the 1st, at around 9:24 a.m., two fixed-line fishing vessels registered in Aewol, vessel A (32 tons, 7 crew members) and vessel B (29 tons, 8 crew members), ran aground on rocky reefs near Tokki Island, Gujwa-eup, Jeju City.


The Coast Guard immediately dispatched patrol ships and rescue teams to the scene and by noon had rescued 12 of the 15 crew members.


Among them, the captain of vessel A, a man in his 50s, was transported to the hospital after receiving emergency treatment including CPR in a state of cardiac arrest, but he ultimately passed away.


Another crew member was unconscious and taken to the hospital but is reported to be in stable condition. The remaining 10 showed symptoms of hypothermia but were found to be in generally good health.


The captains of vessels A and B are Korean, while the other crew members have been confirmed to be foreigners, including Vietnamese and Indonesians.


The Coast Guard is continuing the search operation for the missing persons.
