Minimizing Inconvenience and Confusion for Bus Passengers
by Making Bus Stop Names Easier for Everyone to Understand
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) changed the names of 9 bus stops starting from the 24th of this month.
The district identified bus stops with names that did not reflect the local situation to create a safer and more convenient transportation environment and proceeded with renaming. After actively communicating with residents, final approval was received from the Seoul Metropolitan Government in December last year. This has reduced confusion among residents, making it more convenient to use.
The 9 locations changed this time include the opposite bus stops as well. The names were changed as follows: ▲‘Junggok-dong Terminus’ to ‘Daewon Girls' High School Front’ ▲‘In front of Kookmin Bank Jayang Branch’ to ‘Jayang-dong Post Office, Jungang Nonghyup’ ▲‘Norunsan Market’ to ‘Yeongdonggyo Alley Market’ ▲‘Children’s Grand Park Station, Hwayang Catholic Church’ to ‘Children’s Grand Park Station Exit 4’ and ‘Catholic Hwayang-dong Church’ ▲‘KEB Hana Bank Gunja Branch’ to ‘Jungang Nonghyup Gunja Branch’.
‘In front of Kookmin Bank Jayang Branch’ caused confusion among residents due to duplication with other bus stop names. ‘Junggok-dong Terminus’ and ‘Children’s Grand Park Station, Hwayang Catholic Church’ were renamed to correct inaccurate names and to follow bus stop naming standards. ‘KEB Hana Bank Gunja Branch’ no longer matched as it had already relocated elsewhere.
The renamed bus stops have been in operation with the new names since the first bus on January 24th.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We changed the names so that residents who had experienced inconvenience with bus stop names can easily find their way,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to create a convenient and safe transportation environment through constant communication with residents.”
The district is also working on improving bus stop environments by installing bus shelters, heated and cooled seats, and Bus Information Terminals (BIT).
