Gwangju City Promotes Consumption in Alley Markets and Traditional Markets... Joining Efforts to Revitalize Local Commercial Areas

Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Bang Se-hwan) announced on the 31st that it held a shopping event on the 24th around Gyeongan Market to promote participation in the price stabilization campaign and to boost consumption in local shopping districts and traditional markets in celebration of the Lunar New Year holiday.

About 130 participants, including Mayor Bang Se-hwan, public officials, Gwangju City Urban Management Corporation, businesspeople and small business associations, Small Enterprise and Market Service, Gyeonggi-do Market Promotion Agency, and executives and employees of NH Nonghyup Bank, purchased ritual items and Lunar New Year gifts using the Gwangju Love Card to revitalize the local commercial district and create an atmosphere of price stabilization through consumption promotion.


The attendees encouraged merchants and guided both merchants and citizens to comply with the labeling of the origin of agricultural and marine products and the price display system, urging participation in local price stabilization through rational and sound consumption.


Lee Hong-jae, president of the Gyeongan Market Merchants Association, said, “We are grateful to the city for organizing this event to support merchants who are going through difficult times due to high prices and economic recession,” adding, “This shopping event will greatly help revitalize the traditional market.”


Mayor Bang Se-hwan said, “I hope that all citizens will visit traditional markets and local commercial districts to reduce the burden of grocery prices and help merchants, making it a happy and prosperous Lunar New Year holiday for everyone,” and added, “We will operate a price stabilization task force to monitor price trends and supply and demand situations for holiday seasonal products and daily necessities, aiming to alleviate the burden of food prices and establish a sound commercial order.”
