The Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jong-sik) announced on the 31st that the construction of the 'Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education Mathematics Culture Center,' scheduled for completion at the end of March, is currently underway, including facility construction and the creation of exhibition and experience spaces.

Located on the site of the former Gyeongbuk Science High School in Buk-gu, Pohang City, the Gyeongbuk Office of Education Mathematics Culture Center is a project promoted as part of the superintendent's '4 Major Future Education Policy' pledges, reflecting social demands for the creation of a sustainable, high-quality mathematics teaching ecosystem and the strengthening of mathematics education.

Along with regional mathematics experience centers that began with experiential and enjoyable mathematics education, there are high expectations for the role of the Mathematics Culture Center in supporting the mathematical growth of all students through mathematics classes that develop mathematical thinking skills.

The Mathematics Culture Center is themed "Everything is Mathematics," designed to discover mathematics in everyday life and to provide various mathematics exhibition and experience spaces equipped with challenge and fun that reflect the characteristics of the digital native generation.

The facility consists of educational spaces on the first floor and exhibition and experience spaces from the second to the fourth floors. The first floor operates as an educational space and rest area where math club activities, research activities, and various programs can be conducted. The second floor features a math play area where infants and toddlers can directly touch and experience mathematics, a math rest area, and a math library. The third floor offers math experience spaces connected to various future technologies and math experiences discovered through art. The fourth floor provides spaces to discover and learn about mathematics used in daily life and to explore the history of mathematics.

The Mathematics Culture Center supports the popularization of mathematics by restoring confidence in mathematics through fun math experiences and successful experiences in challenging situations using digital platforms, ultimately spreading a culture where everyone enjoys doing mathematics.

Additionally, the center plans to support the growth of teachers and students by forming and operating a teacher support group, designing lessons using AI digital textbooks and mathematical engineering tools, developing programs, and strengthening professional competencies through the operation of math teacher learning communities. It will also foster a culture of communication and participation in mathematics through programs such as math career camps and regional linked math festivals.

Superintendent Lim Jong-sik of the Gyeongbuk Office of Education stated, "In the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, problem-solving skills and logical thinking are essential competencies. I hope the Mathematics Culture Center becomes a space where students feel more familiar with mathematics and can develop creative thinking skills." He added, "We will spare no administrative and financial support so that students can discover the value of mathematics and enjoy doing mathematics."
