On the 26th (local time), the British Daily Mail reported that Mario Salcedo, a Cuban man also known as 'Super Mario' in the cruise industry, recently completed his 1000th cruise trip. He has enjoyed cruising for 25 years and is said to have spent about $101,000 (approximately 145 million KRW) annually.
Notably, he does not use social media, but in a recent foreign media interview, he shared his thoughts on completing his 1000th cruise trip. He explained, "Being on the ship has become so familiar that now I feel more comfortable at sea than on land," adding, "Wearing a suit all the time was very uncomfortable, and flying to meet clients from various countries was tiresome," explaining why he has been boarding cruises for 25 years.
In the early days of boarding cruise ships, he traveled on vessels from various companies, but later he reportedly only boards ships from Royal Caribbean Cruises, his favorite. The famous cruise company Royal Caribbean Cruises is known to have even prepared an office exclusively for him, complete with a sign reading 'Super Mario Office,' to accommodate his frequent visits as an investor. Since Mario started his first cruise trip in 2000, except for the 15 months during the COVID-19 pandemic when he could not cruise, the days he has spent on land amount to only a few.
Mario reportedly works only four hours a day and spends the rest of his time enjoying entertainment facilities on the cruise ship. He described life on the ship as "completely stress-free" and called it "the best lifestyle I could find."
