Billboard: "Up Two Spots from Last Week"
Song Climbs Back Up as Christmas Carols Drop Off Chart
Group BLACKPINK member Ros?'s solo hit song "Apartment" has entered the US Billboard main singles chart, the "Hot 100," at number 3. This marks the highest record ever achieved by a K-pop female artist.
On the 27th (local time), Billboard announced in a chart forecast article that "'Apartment' rose two spots from the previous week to rank 3." "Apartment" is a single Ros? collaborated on with American pop star Bruno Mars and is also the title track of her first solo full-length album.
Although "Apartment" was released in October last year, it has been steadily climbing the Billboard charts recently. This marks the 14th week since its release (based on the tracking period) that it has achieved its highest ranking, breaking the record for the highest position ever by a K-pop female artist. Ros? previously set the highest record for a K-pop female artist by entering the Billboard Hot 100 at number 5 with "Apartment."
"Apartment" debuted at number 8 on the Hot 100 immediately after its release. At that time, Ros? became the first K-pop female artist to enter the top 10. Afterward, "Apartment" entered a decline phase during the Christmas season, but as many Christmas carol songs that dominated the top of the chart disappeared early this year, the song's ranking rose again through a "reverse run," proving its popularity.
Billboard also reported, "'Apartment' is the first K-pop song to reach number 1 on the Billboard 'Pop Airplay' chart." Pop Airplay is a detailed chart that counts weekly radio play frequency. The previous highest position for a K-pop song on the Pop Airplay chart was BTS's hit song "Dynamite," which peaked at number 5.
