The Pohang Coast Guard was selected as one of the five excellent institutions among 335 local governments and public institutions nationwide in the 2024 disaster preparedness regular training evaluation organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, receiving a commendation from the Minister of the Interior and Safety along with prize money.
The Pohang Coast Guard stated that all employees wished for the prize money to be meaningfully used to support children and vulnerable groups in the region who need assistance, and thus decided to donate the funds.
Kim Ji-han, Chief of the Coast Guard, said, “We will continue regular training and maintain an organic cooperative system with related organizations to do our best to protect the precious lives and property of the people in case of accidents,” adding, “We hope the donation will be meaningfully used for neighbors in need in the community.”
Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, “The warm sharing of the Pohang Coast Guard staff, selected as an excellent institution for disaster preparedness training, will be a great help to neighbors in difficulty during the holiday,” and added, “I hope you will make further efforts to prevent maritime accidents, such as pre-inspection of vulnerable facilities, so that local residents can spend the Lunar New Year holiday safely and comfortably.”
During the holiday period, Mayor Lee also visited and encouraged the Pohang South and North Police Stations, Pohang North Fire Station, and Pohang Coast Guard, which are on emergency duty for citizens’ safety, urging them to be thorough in disaster and accident preparedness.
