Decision on Yoon's Indictment Soon... Nationwide High and District Prosecutors' Meeting Led by Prosecutor General

Supreme Prosecutors' Office Holds Meeting at 10 a.m.
President Yoon Expected to Be Indicted Before Detention Period Expires

The prosecution investigating the December 3 emergency martial law incident held a nationwide meeting regarding the handling of President Yoon Seok-yeol's charges of being the 'leader of a rebellion.'

On the 26th, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office announced, "Regarding the handling plan for President Yoon's case, which was forwarded by the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Division (Gongsucheo), a meeting was scheduled to be held around 10 a.m. today, chaired by the Prosecutor General, with the participation of the Deputy Prosecutor General, department heads, and chief prosecutors from high prosecutors' offices nationwide."

Earlier, the prosecution, having received the case from Gongsucheo, applied twice to the Seoul Central District Court for an extension of the detention period, citing the need for additional investigation, but both requests were denied. Accordingly, the prosecution must decide whether to indict President Yoon without conducting a face-to-face investigation.

It is expected that the prosecution will decide on whether to indict President Yoon at today's meeting. Since the court denied the extension of detention, if the prosecution does not indict within the initial detention period, President Yoon must be released immediately.

President Yoon is accused of declaring and issuing unconstitutional and illegal emergency martial law and proclamation orders, mobilizing armed military and police forces to blockade the National Assembly. He is also charged with attempting to arrest and detain key figures such as members of the National Assembly and election commission staff without warrants, and attempting to seize election commission computer data without a warrant, based on the illegal proclamation order.

Furthermore, the prosecution suspects that he attempted to prevent the National Assembly members' resolution demanding the lifting of martial law by mobilizing the military and police, and after incapacitating the National Assembly, intended to establish a separate emergency legislative body. The prosecution is expected to indict President Yoon without investigation on this day, before the expiration of the detention period on the 27th.
