1/10 Scale Racing Car Autonomous Driving Competition
Pusan National University’s "Jeoktoma" Team Wins Grand Prize
Pusan National University (President Choi Jae-won) held the ‘2025 F1TENTH PNU-HYUNSONG CHAMPIONSHIP Autonomous Driving Race’ at the Mechanical Engineering Building International Conference Hall on the 22nd and 23rd.
This competition was organized as a national event to provide students with opportunities to cultivate creative problem-solving skills through the practical application of advanced autonomous driving technology and to grow into key talents in the future automotive industry.
The event was hosted by the Pusan National University Future Automotive Technology Convergence Innovation Talent Development Project Group and the National University Promotion Project Future Automotive Specialization Project, and sponsored by the Hyunson Education and Culture Foundation and PNU LINC3.0 Project Group.
The ‘F1TENTH’ used in the competition is a 1/10 scale model of a racing car and serves as an open-source platform for autonomous driving system research and education, utilized both internationally and domestically.

This year’s competition featured 16 teams comprising 68 students from eight universities nationwide, including Pusan National University, Gyeongsang National University, Kookmin University, Dong-A University, Sangmyung University, Inje University, and Korea Maritime and Ocean University, all interested in developing autonomous driving technology, competing in races using small autonomous vehicles.
Participants engaged in fierce competition by demonstrating skills in precise path planning, sensor data processing, and vehicle control. In particular, through the competition, they experienced implementing the latest autonomous driving technologies in practice and solving technical challenges on-site, thereby enhancing their practical capabilities.
The grand prize (1st place, PNU President’s Award) was awarded to Pusan National University’s ‘Jeoktoma’ team, the excellence award (2nd place) went to Inje University’s ‘MOVE’ team, and 3rd place was awarded to Dong-A University’s ‘AIRLAB’ team. The event concluded with positive responses from both participants and spectators.
Professor Ahn Seok-young of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, who is in charge of the PNU Future Automotive Technology Convergence Innovation Talent Development Project Group, stated, “Autonomous driving technology, a core of future automotive vehicles, is a field where convergence among various disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, and electronic engineering is crucial. This competition provided a program where future leaders could directly experience and grow, marking a significant achievement.”
Pusan National University plans to continue organizing various programs for the advancement of cutting-edge technologies in the future automotive industry, including autonomous driving, artificial intelligence, and electric vehicles, strengthening industry-academia cooperation and nurturing talents with global competitiveness.
