Two Middle-Aged Women Released and Returned to Taiwan
Whereabouts of Six Others Still Unknown
Chinese actor Wang Xing was recently kidnapped by a human trafficking organization in Thailand and rescued in Myanmar, while eight Taiwanese people were also deceived by the phrase 'free travel in Thailand' and kidnapped.
According to a report by Hong Kong's Sing Tao Daily on the 25th, eight Taiwanese men and women received an enticing offer of a 'free trip to Thailand' from a person named Zhu Mo, who lives in northern Taiwan, in early last month. The offer stated that if they opened an account at Bangkok Bank, they could travel to Thailand for free by paying a commission of 70,000 to 100,000 Taiwan dollars (approximately 3 million to 4.37 million KRW).
However, upon arrival in Bangkok, they were taken to the base of a Myanmar fraud organization. The kidnapped included three women aged 55 to 65, and the rest were young people. Among them, two middle-aged women were released and able to return to Taiwan.
The criminal organization seemed to have judged that older women were difficult to use for fraud crimes. They were released after paying a ransom of 400,000 to 650,000 Taiwan dollars (approximately 17.5 million to 28.41 million KRW).
However, the whereabouts of the remaining six are still unknown, according to Sing Tao Daily.
Zhu Mo, who made the free travel offer, has turned off their mobile phone and is not responding to contact attempts. It is also known that organized crime gangs were involved in this incident.
Earlier, Wang Xing, who appeared in the movie 'Ip Man 3' and the drama 'Mae Gwae Jeok Go Sa' (The Story of the Rose), arrived in Thailand after receiving a casting offer for a drama, went missing at the Thailand-Myanmar border, was found in Myanmar on the 3rd, and returned to his home country on the 11th. Wang Xing reported that he was taken to a building in Myanmar, had his head shaved, and was subjected to fraud training. He said, "I couldn't sleep and didn't even have time to urinate."
Myeawadi in Myanmar, where Wang Xing was taken, is known as a base for criminal organizations involved in online fraud. They are known to imprison personnel in call centers and force them to participate in crimes.
