The Gwangju City Council (Chairperson Shin Sujeong) announced on the 25th that it held a traditional market shopping event on the 24th to promote consumption at traditional markets and revitalize the local economy in celebration of Seol, the nation's largest holiday.
On this day, Chairperson Shin Sujeong and about 20 council staff members visited Malbau Market in Usan-dong, Buk-gu, where they purchased Seol ritual items and actively participated in efforts to invigorate the traditional market.
Chairperson Shin personally bought ritual items using Onnuri gift certificates, listened to feedback from the field by meeting with Park Changsoon, the president of the merchants' association, and other vendors, and warmly greeted citizens shopping at the market.
Chairperson Shin stated, "I hope this shopping event will provide some support to market merchants who are struggling due to economic uncertainty and a sluggish domestic market," and added, "I ask all citizens to show great interest in using traditional markets, where you can purchase high-quality local agricultural and marine products at affordable prices during the Seol holiday."
Meanwhile, from the 17th to the 24th, the Gwangju City Council took the lead in creating an atmosphere to revitalize the use of traditional markets for the Seol holiday by holding shopping events at traditional markets in each department.
