Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education's nine proposals for new school establishments submitted to the Ministry of Education's Central Investment Review were approved on the 24th.
The approved proposals include the establishment of Pyeongtaek Songdam High School to improve educational conditions for children of military personnel, and new schools within the 3rd New Towns designated areas of Goyang Changneung District and Namyangju Wangsuk District, totaling nine projects.
Pyeongtaek Songdam High School aims to open in March 2028 to improve educational conditions for children of military personnel who frequently relocate. This is in accordance with the "Military Children-Linked Autonomous Public High School Promotion Agreement" signed by the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Education in March last year. In addition to children of military personnel, the school plans to recruit students from the Pyeongtaek area, which is expected to alleviate overcrowding in local high schools.
The schools within the 3rd New Towns that passed the Central Investment Review are ▲Goyang Changneung 5 Elementary School ▲Namyangju Wangsuk 1 Elementary School ▲Wangsuk 2 Middle School, all scheduled to open in March 2028 to coincide with the first move-in period.
The Provincial Office of Education will continue to promote the establishment of schools within the districts according to the move-in schedules, starting with the first schools in the 3rd New Towns.
Other approved schools include one kindergarten in Gwacheon, three schools in Pyeongtaek (two elementary schools and one high school), and one high school in Gimpo.
Lee Seung-ho, Director of School Establishment Planning at the Provincial Office of Education, stated, "With the approval from the Ministry of Education's Central Investment Review, we have met the educational needs of each region," adding, "We will continue to strive to establish necessary schools in a timely manner."
