Busan Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) urged active vaccination on the 24th due to the recent increase in influenza and COVID-19 patients.
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, the number of influenza-like illness patients recently reached the highest level since 2016, and COVID-19 hospitalizations are also increasing.
The influenza vaccine is very similar to the currently circulating influenza virus, so sufficient preventive effects can be expected through vaccination. The COVID-19 vaccine also has the ability to form immunity against the variant virus currently prevalent in Korea, making vaccination sufficiently effective for prevention.
A health center official stated, "During the Lunar New Year holiday, many people travel and gather, leading to active group activities, which is expected to further spread influenza and COVID-19 infections," and added, "To have a safe Lunar New Year holiday, we strongly urge high-risk groups who have not yet been vaccinated to get vaccinated in advance."
