"Demonstrates Openness and Innovation Capabilities"

According to Chinese media, the number of scientific talents in China has nearly doubled in the past four years, demonstrating China's openness and innovation capabilities.

The Chinese state-run English newspaper Global Times reported on the 24th that "the number of leading scientists in China increased from 18,805 in 2020 to 32,511 last year," adding that "the share of scientific talents residing in China in the global scientific community also rose from 16.9% to 27.9% during the same period."

The media explained that this is because top talents have continuously flowed into China. It stated, "Returning talents from overseas span various fields such as mathematics, physics, environmental science, materials science, and artificial intelligence," and "some are chief scientists at renowned international companies or tenured researchers at world-class research institutions."

In fact, news of overseas talents returning to China from Tsinghua University and Peking University has recently been frequent. On the 21st, Tsinghua University announced via its WeChat (China's version of KakaoTalk) account that blockchain expert Chen Jing had returned from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States to take a full-time professorship. Professor Chen earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at Tsinghua University and completed his PhD under Silvio Micali, a Turing Award winner known as the "Nobel Prize of Computer Science," at MIT. He stated, "I will provide students with the experience accumulated in academia and industry."

The media also reported that Zhang Xiaoya, who earned her PhD at Tsinghua University and then attended Harvard Medical School, recently returned to Tsinghua University's First Affiliated Hospital after giving up her physician position at Massachusetts General Hospital, one of the top hospitals in the United States.

China Observer Network recently reported that Peking University also welcomed back Hui Juan, a leading scholar in bioinformatics who had lived in the United States for over 20 years and taught at Emory University for about 15 years, to her alma mater.
