Ulsan Office of Education Expands Participation Eligibility for Dadut English Parent Club

2024 Performance Sharing Meeting Held, Cases and Experiences Shared
Educational Linkage Between Elementary and Middle Schools,
Home-School Cooperation

The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Cheon Chang-su) will expand the participation target for the Daddeut English Parent Club this year.

'Daddeut English' means 'If you listen a lot (多), you hear everything (All)' and is a listening-centered Ulsan-style elementary English program.

The 'Daddeut English Parent Club' supports a listening-focused English learning system at schools and creates an English listening environment at home to help improve listening skills.

This year, the participation target for the Daddeut English Parent Club will be expanded from parents of elementary school children to parents whose children started Daddeut English in elementary school and have now grown into middle school students.

The Ulsan Office of Education plans to strengthen the continuity of English learning and solidify cooperation between home and school through educational linkage between elementary and middle schools by expanding the participation target.

Recruitment of new members is scheduled for March, with 150 spots available. Parents of elementary school children in the region who wish to participate can apply through the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education’s integrated reservation system.

On the 15th, the Ulsan Office of Education held the 'Daddeut English Parent Club 2024 Performance Sharing Meeting' online.

The Daddeut English Parent Club, which started in 2020, is a voluntary parent participation project that has continued for five years. Last year, 152 parents from 14 clubs were active members. A performance sharing meeting is held annually, and a 'Parent Club Activity Book' is also published.

The performance sharing meeting included presentations on club activity status, cases of children's growth, and sharing of parents' changes. In particular, experiences of students who started Daddeut English in elementary school and continued learning in middle school were shared, boosting parents' pride.

The first part provided time to share the club’s operation status and changes in children and parents after activities.

The second part featured presentations of cases and experiences of students who started Daddeut English in elementary school and continued in middle school.

Additionally, a 'Parent Club Activity Book' summarizing parents' activities was published, suggesting ways to utilize the achievements and experiences of Daddeut English at school and home.

According to last year’s parent club survey, 76.9% of parents responded that they do not send their children to private English education but practice Daddeut English at home.

This shows that the Daddeut English Parent Club is effectively contributing to reducing private education expenses.

Also, 83.8% of parents said they pay more attention to their children's interests, and 60.7% said they have gained patience in waiting for their children's growth.

This suggests that Daddeut English has had a positive impact not only on English learning but also on improving parent-child relationships.

90.6% of parents responded that they will participate in the Daddeut English Parent Club activities again this year, indicating active operation is expected in 2025 as well.

An official from the Ulsan Office of Education said, “The English curriculum of the 2022 revised education program focuses on strengthening communication skills, with listening and speaking being the most fundamental and important processes,” adding, “We will actively support the Daddeut English Parent Club and do our best to enable parents to participate healthily in school education.”
