Korea Health Industry Development Institute Recruiting Companies to Participate in Southeast Asia's Largest Pharmaceutical Exhibition

The Korea Health Industry Development Institute announced on the 24th that it will recruit eight domestic companies to participate in the largest pharmaceutical exhibition in Southeast Asia, held this July, to support the entry of Korean companies into the Southeast Asian market.

'2025 CPHI South East Asia (CPHI SEA)' is the largest pharmaceutical exhibition in Southeast Asia. It is an event where opportunities for collaboration with local companies in various health industry sectors such as active pharmaceutical ingredients, generics, and healthcare can be discovered. In particular, CPHI SEA, being specialized for the emerging ASEAN markets, has established itself as a platform to understand the latest trends in the major Southeast Asian pharmaceutical industries and to form a global network.

This year’s event is expected to attract great attention as it will be held in Malaysia, which is gaining recognition as the business hub of the ASEAN region. Although Malaysia’s pharmaceutical market size is about 14.2% of Korea’s, it offers a favorable environment for domestic companies to collaborate with global partners due to its low costs and excellent medical accessibility.

Especially, Malaysia leads halal certification in the ASEAN region, providing the advantage that once halal certification is obtained, pharmaceuticals can be supplied to Islamic countries worldwide. Based on this, it can serve as a foothold for Korean halal-certified pharmaceutical companies to expand their business not only in ASEAN but also in Islamic markets such as the Middle East and Africa.

The Korea Health Industry Development Institute operated a Korean pavilion at CPHI SEA held in Bangkok, Thailand last year. It supported over 300 partnering cases between nine domestic participating companies and local Southeast Asian companies.

This year, reflecting the feedback from last year’s participating companies, the institute plans to increase the support ratio for participation fees (basic booth rental and equipment deposit) and provide a list of local partner companies interested in domestic companies in advance to support partnering.

A representative from the Korea Health Industry Development Institute stated, "The Southeast Asian pharmaceutical market is expanding for Korean pharmaceutical companies due to relatively easier licensing registration and accessibility compared to advanced countries," adding, "For domestic companies focused on finished products, securing the Southeast Asian market, where competition with multinational companies is relatively less intense than in advanced markets, can be a key entry strategy."

Applications for participation in the Korean pavilion will be accepted until the 12th of next month. Those wishing to participate can download the application form from the institute’s website and submit it via email to the person in charge. Detailed support procedures and preparation information will be individually provided to the final selected companies.
