Regional Dedicated System for General, Food, and Recyclable Waste
Now, residents in Gangseo-gu, Seoul can dispose of household waste five days a week. Gangseo-gu (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) announced on the 24th that starting next month, the district will implement a 'daily collection system' for household waste throughout Gangseo-gu, improving the previous thrice-weekly alternate-day collection system to a five-day disposal schedule (from Sunday to Thursday).
This policy was established to alleviate residents' inconveniences and provide a clean living environment. Residents will be able to dispose of their waste at a consistent time every day (from 7 PM to midnight) without confusion about disposal days.
Although collection will not occur on Fridays and Saturdays in accordance with the five-day workweek, a special weekend collection team will be operated separately to prepare for emergencies.
To enhance collection efficiency, the district will introduce a regional dedicated system that integrates the existing dual system of direct management and outsourcing. A single designated contractor per region will comprehensively collect general waste, food waste, recyclables, and large waste items. This is expected to reduce confusion during the collection process and enable systematic and stable operations.
Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon stated, “With the introduction of the daily collection system, residents' lives will become much more convenient, and Gangseo-gu will become cleaner. We ask for the active participation of all residents to ensure the policy is successfully established through adherence to disposal times and proper waste separation.”
