"Citizen Safety First" ... Changwon Special City Launches Full-Scale Implementation of 'Traffic Safety Action Plan'

Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam is prioritizing citizen safety and is actively promoting the ‘2025 Changwon City Traffic Safety Implementation Plan’ to create a safe traffic environment.

According to the city on the 24th, this plan is an annual implementation plan that sets policy goals, promotion plans, and investment plans each year based on the higher-level plan established in 2022 under Article 17 of the Traffic Safety Act, namely the ‘4th Changwon City Basic Traffic Safety Plan (2022?2026).’

The city has been steadily and significantly reducing the number of traffic accident fatalities each year through systematic annual implementation plans and traffic safety policy promotion, with 61 deaths in 2022, 48 in 2023, and 36 in 2024.

This year’s main promotion strategies focus on four areas: ▲ Safe road users ▲ Safe road environment ▲ Safe vehicles ▲ Advanced safety management system. To ensure strong execution, the city will invest 62.9 billion KRW, a 50% increase compared to last year’s budget of 41.8 billion KRW.

In particular, to create a safe road environment, 49.2 billion KRW will be intensively invested in ▲ Strengthening speed management ▲ Improving safe pedestrian environments ▲ Enhancing road and traffic safety facilities ▲ Establishing rest areas for freight vehicles. The city also plans to raise traffic culture awareness by conducting year-round traffic safety campaigns targeting citizens using various promotional media.

Lee Jong-geun, Director of the Transportation and Construction Bureau, stated, “Through the annual customized traffic safety implementation plans for Changwon Special City, we will do our best to protect citizens’ precious lives and create a safe traffic environment,” and urged, “Both drivers and pedestrians should comply with traffic laws and make traffic safety a part of daily life.”
