After inspecting the site, Mayor Hong emphasized the smooth implementation of household waste measures to prevent any inconvenience to citizens during the holiday. The city will collect household waste normally on the 27th and 28th, which are the temporary holidays and the first two days of the holiday period, but collection will be suspended from the 29th to the 30th, the Lunar New Year days.
He then visited Gyeongnam Gwangmyeongchon to communicate with and listen to the difficulties of the families of Korean War veterans. This is the first visit by a Changwon mayor to Gwangmyeongchon, a community where disabled veterans and their families reside, in 12 years.
Mayor Hong once again expressed his gratitude and respect to the veterans and their families who contributed to the protection of the nation, wishing them a warm and happy Lunar New Year. Changwon Special City has increased the honorarium for veterans from 130,000 KRW to 150,000 KRW per month and the honorary pension for veterans’ families from 80,000 KRW to 100,000 KRW per month starting in 2025 to strengthen support for national merit recipients.

He also did not forget his efforts for the livelihood economy. Visiting Dongmasan Market, Mayor Hong checked overall prices while purchasing seasonal goods, communicated with merchants, and offered warm encouragement. Additionally, since winter sees frequent fires in traditional markets, he inspected electrical, gas, and fire safety facilities within the market and instructed related departments to take proactive measures and establish a close cooperative system to prevent accidents.
Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, said, “Although this is a difficult time due to ongoing high inflation, high interest rates, and various domestic situations, we will prioritize the recovery of the livelihood economy and strive to ensure that citizens can have a safe and happy Lunar New Year through meticulous comprehensive measures such as household waste management and safety.” He added, “To revitalize the local economy, we are issuing large-scale Changwon Sarang gift certificates and increasing the purchase discount rate, allowing citizens to buy Lunar New Year supplies at affordable prices. I ask citizens to support our traditional markets.”
