Preparing for the Leap Toward a "Premium Yeongdeok Market"

Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, is pushing forward with the reconstruction of Yeongdeok Market, which was destroyed in 2021, without halting construction during the winter, aiming to complete it by August.

Currently, Yeongdeok-gun is operating a temporary market after the fire, but the lack of heating and cooling facilities is causing inconvenience to both visitors and merchants.

In response, Yeongdeok-gun plans to install slab formwork on the 1st and 2nd floors starting January without any construction breaks, and aims to complete the framework by April. Interior finishing such as insulation, painting, plastering, and masonry will be completed by July, with the goal of finishing the reconstruction by August.

The newly reborn Yeongdeok Market will have a total floor area of 5,770㎡, with 51 stores on the first floor and community convenience facilities such as a multipurpose room, club room, and education room on the second floor.

Additionally, a dedicated parking lot accommodating 216 vehicles will be created to resolve parking issues, and with a budget secured through a separate public contest project, a children's playground and convenience facilities for family visitors will also be established.

County Governor Kim Gwang-yeol said, “We are faithfully carrying out the reconstruction based on close, on-site communication with market merchants,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure that the construction proceeds as planned so that Yeongdeok Market can make a fresh start as a premium market in the new year of Eulsa.”
