Following this, Mayor Kim Ikang of Seo-gu and multicultural families participated together in a holiday grocery shopping event at Yangdong Traditional Market.
A marriage immigrant from Vietnam said, “Preparing holiday food to eat with my family was a time to deepen my understanding of Korean traditions and culture,” and added, “I am grateful that kind neighbors soothe the growing homesickness during the holidays with their care and love.”
The recipients of this Lunar New Year grocery support project were marriage immigrants and multicultural families residing in Seo-gu with household incomes within 100% of the median income. Applications were accepted through the Gwangju Seo-gu Family Center from the 23rd of last month to the 8th of this month, and the project was fully funded by Seo-gu Honors.
Previously, Seo-gu Honors attracted attention by supporting 26 million won in travel expenses for visiting home countries through the ‘Motherland and Maternal Home Visit Project’ for multicultural families. This is part of the ‘012 Project’ aimed at ‘Zero Welfare Blind Spots, Happy Seo-gu All Year Round’ promoted by Seo-gu.
Mayor Kim Ikang said, “Kind City Seo-gu is working with Honors to fill welfare blind spots and create a community where a culture of sharing and solidarity spreads widely,” and added, “We will continue to strive to bring hope to marginalized neighbors through various welfare projects.”
