"It seems the PCC is pressed for time"
"'Park Geun-hye's impeachment' was fundamentally different"
Former lawmaker Choi Jae-sung, who served as the Senior Secretary for Political Affairs at the Blue House during the Moon Jae-in administration, criticized the investigation by the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit (PCC) by saying, "Once again, it has become 'Gongsurae Gongsucheo' (a play on words implying ineffectiveness)."
On the 23rd, Choi appeared on KBS1 radio's 'Jeonggyeok Sisa' and said, "The PCC is currently pressed for time. There is an obsession with investigating President Yoon no matter what, but it seems unlikely to materialize." He added, "Since there is no visible way to forcibly investigate President Yoon, the PCC is in a situation where it cannot do anything more," and said, "In the end, the only option is to quickly hand over the case to the prosecution."
The PCC attempted a third forced summons of President Yoon, who did not comply with the previous summons requests, but it failed. The PCC left open the possibility of conducting an on-site investigation inside the detention center and requested President Yoon's side to cooperate with the investigation, but President Yoon refused all requests.
Regarding President Yoon's continuous allegations of election fraud, former lawmaker Choi said, "He is someone who harbored delusions or suspicions about election fraud," and criticized, "Falling into such delusions and making false claims is itself a problem. It is somewhat like a cult or apocalyptic belief."
Choi also said, "The impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye and the impeachment of President Yoon are completely different in content and quality," adding, "The key point is that President Yoon's declaration of martial law was unconstitutional and illegal, and because the public witnessed in real time the military and armed forces attempting to block and seize the National Assembly, there is no clearer evidence than this."
Regarding the public opinion polls showing that the theory of regime extension is ahead of regime change, he said, "After the martial law declaration, the opposition party took a more offensive stance, while the president and the ruling party became defensive. When an offensive phase comes, it is important to perform well, but the mistakes of Representative Lee Jae-myung and the Democratic Party are clearly visible." He continued, "The offensive stance of Representative Lee and the Democratic Party will influence whether it is regime change or regime extension. The next presidential election will be a fierce contest."
Regarding the possibility of a change in the 'one-pole system' under Representative Lee Jae-myung, he said, "There may be a third movement within the Democratic Party or a situation where significant upheaval occurs," adding, "The possibility that Representative Lee will not become president is becoming a reality, but the Democratic Party is a one-pole system. That means they cannot achieve regime change, so will they just stay still?"
