10% Discount Rate Applied Until March
Since the 1st of this month, Jeollanam-do has proactively issued 350 billion KRW worth of local love gift certificates to promote local consumption and boost sales for small business owners.
Due to the lack of government budget allocation this year, Jeollanam-do and its cities and counties inevitably had to reduce the discount rate for local love gift certificates. However, they have decided to temporarily maintain a 10% discount rate until March.
In particular, nine cities and counties, including Suncheon and Naju, are expected to help household finances by launching additional discount events that increase the discount rate to 15-20% ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
The province plans to issue a total of 918.5 billion KRW worth of gift certificates throughout 2025. Once the proactively issued 350 billion KRW is used up, an additional 518.5 billion KRW (with a 5-10% discount) will be issued in the form of gift certificates by 22 cities and counties.
The local love gift certificates can be used not only at traditional markets but also at affiliated local stores, providing residents with price-saving benefits and small business owners with tangible sales growth, thereby greatly contributing to revitalizing the local economy.
Kim Youn-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, said, "Local love gift certificates are the most effective support measure for small business owners and self-employed people who are struggling due to the economic downturn."
