Mayor Kim Gwangyeol and Provincial Assembly Member Hwang Jaecheol Attend

Gyeongbuk Development Corporation (President Lee Jae-hyuk) has contributed to creating warm homes for vulnerable housing groups. On the 22nd, Gyeongbuk Development Corporation held a completion ceremony for the 9th branch of ‘The Happy GBDC House’ in Yeonghae-myeon, Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk. At the ceremony, not only related organizations such as Gyeongbuk Development Corporation and Gyeongbuk Volunteer Center but also Kim Gwang-yeol, Mayor of Yeongdeok-gun, and Hwang Jae-cheol, Gyeongbuk Provincial Assembly member, participated to share a meaningful time together.

The 9th branch of ‘The Happy GBDC House’ completed in Yeonghae-myeon, Yeongdeok-gun, was designated for an elderly couple whose spouse is undergoing medical treatment. They are vulnerable to cold waves and heat waves and live in a dangerous environment where the house walls shake due to road vibrations because their home is located between front and back roads. Therefore, special care was taken in the renovation work. In particular, the elderly couple benefiting from this project had been exemplary in community volunteer activities for over ten years, including elementary school traffic volunteering and participation in the local community security council, always putting others before themselves.

‘The Happy GBDC House’ project is a representative social contribution activity utilizing the expertise of Gyeongbuk Development Corporation, aimed at renovating housing facilities for vulnerable housing groups. Starting with the first branch in Sangju City in 2022, it has now entered its fourth year, with nine branches completed to date.

The ‘The Happy GBDC House’ project is a collaborative effort among four organizations: Gyeongbuk Development Corporation, Gyeongbuk Community Chest of Korea, Gyeongbuk Volunteer Center, and the Korean Red Cross Gyeongbuk Branch. The project proceeds according to each organization’s capabilities, including donation of construction costs by the corporation, dispatch of employees and renovation work, contact with local community centers and selection of beneficiaries, and post-completion follow-up management.

Lee Jae-hyuk, President of Gyeongbuk Development Corporation, said, “I feel proud and warm-hearted to have provided a cozy space for the elderly couple who serve the local community,” and added, “In 2025, we will continue our social contribution projects with the goal of providing warm and comfortable homes for the Gyeongbuk community.”
