Acting Chief Justice Moon Hyung-bae of the Constitutional Court denied the claim made by Kwon Seon-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, that he paid a condolence visit for Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, on the occasion of his mother's passing.
On the 22nd, the Constitutional Court told the press corps, "Acting Chief Justice Moon has never paid a condolence visit for Leader Lee's mother's passing, nor has he ever given a condolence money."
Earlier that day, Floor Leader Kwon visited the Constitutional Court, which is currently conducting the impeachment trial of President Yoon Seok-yeol, and claimed, "Acting Chief Justice Moon visited the bereaved family when Leader Lee's mother passed away in 2020 and is so close that he even boasted about it to Constitutional Court officials." The Constitutional Court rebutted this, saying, "This is clearly contrary to the facts."
Meanwhile, Acting Chief Justice Moon and Leader Lee were classmates in the 28th Judicial Examination and the 18th Judicial Research and Training Institute. Afterwards, Acting Chief Justice Moon pursued a career as a judge in Busan and Gyeongnam, while Leader Lee opened a law practice as a lawyer.
