Paju-si Completes 2024 Annual Survey of Social Security Benefit Recipients

Processing an Average of Over 10,000 Cases Per Month in 2024, Including Social Security Benefit Application Investigations and Post-Management

Paju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) announced on the 22nd that it has completed all annual investigations conducted to verify the eligibility and appropriateness of benefits for social security benefit recipients, finishing the second half regular verification survey at the end of December last year.

The annual investigation is divided into application surveys conducted when there is a benefit application and verification surveys conducted after benefit decisions to investigate changes in recipients.


The investigation is carried out through various methods, including reflecting income, property, and personal changes of recipients (rights holders) and obligated supporters, which are periodically provided through linked information (208 types, 94 categories) from 25 institutions such as the National Tax Service, conducting field surveys on work ability, employment status, and living environment, and providing opportunities for explanation if public data differs from actual income and property.


To this end, Paju City operates three welfare investigation teams (20 members) and handled a total of 131,993 welfare complaints (an average of 10,099 per month) throughout 2024, including 21,269 social security benefit application investigations and 110,724 post-benefit change processing cases, through investigation, assessment, and management in 13 fields such as basic livelihood security customized benefits for livelihood, medical care, housing, education, basic pension, and disability pension.


In particular, through monthly and regular verification surveys in 2024, Paju City completed 100% of investigations for a total of 15,888 households, including reflecting benefit increases or decreases for 5,520 households, maintaining benefits for 7,956 households, and suspending eligibility for 2,412 households, achieving an S grade in the comprehensive city-county evaluation for six consecutive years since 2019.


Additionally, Paju City is focusing on various social vulnerable group support and expanding welfare benefits, such as promoting the discovery of impoverished elderly using basic pension data linked with investigation tasks for the new year 2025, shortening the basic pension assessment period from the usual three months to 1.5 months, and offline promotion for digitally vulnerable groups.


Kwon Ye-ja, Director of the Welfare Support Division, said, “The number of welfare complaint cases increased from about 100,000 at the end of 2023 to about 130,000 at the end of 2024,” and added, “As the customized benefits for citizens' basic livelihood security continue to expand, application investigations and post-management are also increasing accordingly. We will make every effort to prevent any leakage in related tasks and steadily move forward aiming for an S grade for the seventh consecutive year.”
