People Power Party Support Rises for Three Consecutive Weeks
In a party support survey conducted by a polling firm operated by broadcaster Kim Eo-jun, the support rate for the People Power Party was recorded at 38.1%, the highest since the 21st general election.
According to the results of a survey conducted by Poll Flower on the 17th and 18th targeting 1,007 men and women nationwide aged 18 and over, the Democratic Party of Korea received 43.2% support, while the People Power Party received 38.1%. The Democratic Party's support dropped by 0.7 percentage points compared to the previous week's survey, whereas the People Power Party's support rose by 4.9 percentage points, narrowing the gap by 5.6 percentage points from the previous survey.
The People Power Party's support was less than half of the Democratic Party's in the survey conducted on December 23 last year (People Power Party 24.2%, Democratic Party 52.8%), but it has shown a three-week consecutive upward trend, increasing to 26.8%, then 33.2%, and finally 38.1%.
When asked about the next presidential candidate, Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party (38.8%), ranked first, followed by Kim Moon-soo, Minister of Employment and Labor (12.8%). Next were Oh Se-hoon, Mayor of Seoul (7.2%), Hong Joon-pyo, Mayor of Daegu (6.5%), Han Dong-hoon, former leader of the People Power Party (6.3%), Ahn Cheol-soo, People Power Party lawmaker (2.9%), Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province (2.3%), Woo Won-shik, Speaker of the National Assembly (1.5%), and Lee Jun-seok, lawmaker of the Reform New Party (1.3%).
Regarding this, Kim said on his YouTube show "Kim Eo-jun's Humility is Hard News Factory" that "The gap between the two major parties has narrowed to 2.9 percentage points in the third week of February, just before the general election when all media were attacking the Democratic Party's nominations, which is the narrowest since then." He added, "Of course, if you include the Innovation Party, the gap is still over 10 percentage points, but even the Democratic Party alone had a 10 percentage point lead."
Kim continued, "We discovered a very peculiar point during this survey. It seems like the conservative camp is waiting as they answer the phone." He said, "Usually, women in their 70s do not answer much, but suddenly all of them answered. It was as if they were waiting. They answered the phone immediately, beyond an active level."
This survey was conducted using the CATI method with wireless virtual numbers provided by the three major telecommunications companies. The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and the overall response rate is 17.1%.
