The Administrative City Construction Agency (ACCA) announced on the 21st that it plans to hold an international competition in the first half of this year to complete the blueprint for the Sejong National Symbolic Zone, which includes the National Assembly Sejong Chamber and the President's Second Office. Facilities for attracting businesses, such as an R&D complex town, and university campuses will also be promoted.
ACCA released its major work plan for this year, which includes these details. Regarding the National Symbolic Zone, ACCA has so far completed the basic preparations by amending related laws and finalizing project plans, and is now preparing to create the National Symbolic Zone by linking buildings and infrastructure such as parks that will be located in the central area.
To this end, ACCA will establish an urban plan and actively proceed with the architectural design of the President's Second Office based on the winning design. It also stated that it will support the National Assembly project plan in cooperation with the National Assembly. Centered on the National Symbolic Zone selected through the international competition, a 'S-1 Living Zone Master Plan' will be drawn up to organically connect cultural facilities such as museum complexes, arboretums, and libraries, as well as the lake and central park.
In preparation for the introduction of national core facilities, a preliminary feasibility study will be conducted to build a new bridge crossing the Geum River. While gradually expanding transportation infrastructure, the transportation system will also be reorganized, including the development of new BRT routes and the establishment of a basic plan for National Road No. 96. The project plans for the Sejong District Court and Prosecutor's Office will also be finalized within the year.
The 'The Jiphyeonjeon Future Campus,' being prepared to attract businesses, will be built as a corporate-type R&D complex town. In the first half of this year, sales-type campuses for Chungnam National University and Kongju National University will be launched, and a cooperative body for tenant universities will be operated for the rental-type joint campus that opened last year. From March, the Happy Dormitory will be operated. To enhance facility utilization, joint academic conferences and exhibitions will be held, and convergence programs with domestic and foreign universities will be developed.
In Zone 1 of the National Museum Complex, the Urban Architecture Museum will open next year, followed by the Design and Digital Museum the year after, and the National Archives Museum the year after that. The winning design for the National Archives Museum competition is expected to be announced next month. The comprehensive sports facility in Daepyeong-dong will develop a new construction model to accommodate large events and performances in addition to sports competitions.
Additionally, a housing supply plan to provide more than 3,000 units, including sales and rental housing, will be finalized next month. Rental housing targeting young people will be prepared, and a senior town for the elderly will also be promoted by soliciting private sector operators within this year.
Considering newly established institutions, the national transportation plan will be revised, including the development of new routes. The location for a metropolitan transfer center will also be examined. A lifelong education center for parallel learning and vocational experience for all age groups, as well as a complex community center, are scheduled to be completed around November. Plazas, walking trails, and parks will also be created.
Kim Hyung-ryeol, head of ACCA, said, "The National Assembly Sejong Chamber, the President's Second Office, and the entire Sejong National Symbolic Zone represent an unprecedented historic project to create core national buildings and spaces simultaneously in the same period and location. We will carefully proceed by gathering many opinions to showcase the spirit of our times and the future direction of our country."
