A senator who attended the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President Donald Trump attracted attention by appearing in a hoodie and shorts. On the 20th (local time), foreign media including The Washington Post (WP), CNN, USA Today, and BBC reported that the inauguration ceremony held at the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol in Washington was attended by heads of big tech companies such as Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla; Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon; Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta; Tim Cook, CEO of Apple; Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google; as well as influential figures from politics and business.

Among these CEOs, the most eye-catching figure was Senator John Fetterman. Senator Fetterman arrived at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., where the inauguration was held, wearing a black hoodie, gray shorts, and sneakers. Although Trump's inauguration was held indoors for the first time in 40 years since 1985 due to subzero temperatures, Fetterman paid no attention to this and wore his usual casual attire. The Washington Post (WP) even cited Fetterman's outfit as one of the "most memorable scenes" of Trump's second inauguration.

Senator Fetterman is over 2 meters tall and is known for wearing jeans or hoodies even at official events. Born in Pennsylvania in 1969, he used unique methods to revitalize declining communities, such as repurposing vacant buildings when he was mayor of the small Pennsylvania town of Braddock in 2006. Focusing on representing labor voices, he gained support from voters in the Rust Belt and was elected senator in 2003. Recently, Senator Fetterman visited Mar-a-Lago in Florida at the invitation of President-elect Trump.

This was the first time a Democratic senator had done so. At that time, he emphasized "bipartisan cooperation" regarding the visit. Fetterman stated, "I am not only a Democrat from Pennsylvania but also a senator for all Pennsylvanians," adding, "If it helps Pennsylvania and America, I will meet and talk with anyone."

Meanwhile, at the inauguration, Melania Trump, the First Lady, sat in the front row on the left side of the stage along with eldest son Donald Trump Jr., eldest daughter Ivanka, second son Eric, youngest daughter Tiffany, third son Barron, daughter-in-law Lara, son-in-law Jared Kushner, and his granddaughter, all seated behind President Trump's family. Behind them sat nominees for the second administration's cabinet members, including Marco Rubio, nominee for Secretary of State; Scott Bessent, nominee for Secretary of the Treasury; and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Also notable at the inauguration was the unusually large presence of big tech company CEOs. This was the first time since the 2020 congressional hearings targeting big tech companies that many CEOs of these companies attended together. Many of these companies are currently involved in legal disputes with the U.S. government over antitrust violations and taxes. Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Michael Bennet criticized them, saying they are "trying to curry favor with the Trump administration to avoid oversight and regulation."
