Follow-up Measures for the Korea-UK Defense Industry Joint Export Memorandum of Understanding
On the 20th, the Ministry of National Defense jointly held the 'Korea-UK Defense Industry Cooperation Meeting' with Won Jong-dae, Director General of the Defense Policy Bureau, and Oliver Harry, Director of the UK Defence Security and Export Agency, to discuss joint defense industry export plans between the two countries, the Ministry announced on the 21st.
This meeting was the first at the Ministry of National Defense level to implement the 'Korea-UK Defense Industry Joint Export Memorandum of Understanding' signed in 2023. Both sides shared their respective systems and current status related to defense exports to enhance mutual understanding, and discussed practical measures for joint defense exports, including identifying needs for joint development and joint exports.
Additionally, the two countries agreed to strive for producing joint defense export achievements through continuous discussions.
On the same day, Lee Young-bin, Director of the Planning and Coordination Office, met with Director Oliver to discuss defense industry cooperation between the two countries. Both Korea and the UK evaluated that the meeting held the previous day was successful and that cooperation between the two countries is continuously strengthening.
Director Lee Young-bin stated, “The UK is a key ally of Korea, and I hope that defense industry cooperation between the two countries will expand overall, not only in joint defense exports but also in other areas.”
