The Original Musical 'Wild Gray' to Perform in Japan Until the End of Next Month

The original musical 'Wild Gray' will be performed in Japan until the end of February.

'Wild Gray' is a production by the theater company New Production and premiered in 2021 at the Art One Theater in Daehangno. This year, it expanded to Japan, opening on the 8th at the New National Theatre in Tokyo. After performances at the New National Theatre until the 26th, the show will continue next month in Nagoya (February 8 at Wink Aichi Grand Hall), Osaka (February 14?16 at Morinomiya Piloti Hall), and Takasaki (February 22 at Takasaki Arts Theater Studio Theater).

Muneko Nemoto, who directed the Japanese premiere, said, "We chose 'Wild Gray' to present an original performance born in Korea to Japan," adding, "As the director of the Japanese premiere, I am filled with anticipation and responsibility for the production."

'Wild Gray' is an original musical set in late 19th-century London, a time rigid with customs and norms. It centers on Oscar Wilde, who caused controversy by publishing the provocative novel 'The Picture of Dorian Gray,' and tells the story of three people dreaming of freedom between art and reality.

Oscar Wilde stirred British society with his novel's unconventional themes and content that clashed with the era. Amid a rigid social atmosphere and fierce controversy despite several revisions, he ultimately published the novel with an undesired ending. By his side, Robert Ross, who admired everything about Oscar, silently supported him. At a time when even freedom within art was suppressed, Alfred Douglas, who resembles Dorian Gray from the novel, appears before them, and the story begins.

'Wild Gray' was revived on stage in 2023, and New Production plans to hold its third season this year.
