Yongsan-gu Conducts Joint Safety Inspection of Traditional Markets Ahead of the Holiday

Inspections Conducted on Architecture, Electricity, Gas, and Fire Safety
at Seven Locations Including Traditional Markets

Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) announced on the 19th that it recently conducted joint safety inspections and fire prevention campaigns targeting traditional markets and shopping districts to prevent safety accidents ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.

Yongsan-gu conducted a joint safety inspection on the 13th at Huam Market with private experts in various fields such as construction, electricity, gas, and fire safety. Provided by Yongsan-gu.

The joint inspection targeted a total of seven locations, including six traditional markets in the area: Malli Market, Huam Market, Sinheung Market, Itaewon Market, Yongsan Yongmun Market, Ichon General Market, and the Hangang Shopping Center shopping district.

The inspection covered areas such as architecture, electricity, gas, and fire safety, and was conducted jointly with private experts in each field. Education on operation and crowd management was also provided to merchant associations and managers.

The district focused on inspecting the availability of fire extinguishing facilities such as fire extinguishers, the operation of fire hydrants and fire shutters, grounding status of electrical devices, safety management and risk prevention of electrical facilities, gas cylinder storage conditions, proper functioning of gas shut-off valves and alarms, and ground subsidence. Issues that could be immediately addressed on-site during the inspection were corrected right away, while other inspection results will be notified to the merchant associations to encourage facility repairs and improvements.

District Mayor Park Hee-young stated, “We will continue to strive for safety management so that residents can use traditional markets safely.”

To ensure the safety and revitalization of traditional markets, the district carried out projects last year including arcade leak reinforcement work at Huam Market, safety reinforcement work at the old Yongmun Market, and maintenance of aging electrical wiring at Ichon Market and Sinheung Market.
