Dongdaemun-gu Social Welfare Association Delivers 500 Bags of Rice (12.5 Million KRW) to Dongdaemun-gu

500 Bags of Sangju Sambaek Rice Donated
to Support Neighbors in Need for Seollal

Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 16th that the Dongdaemun-gu Social Welfare Council (Chairman Park Sang-jong) delivered 500 bags of 10kg Sangju Sambaek rice (worth approximately 12.5 million KRW) to help neighbors in need in celebration of the traditional Korean holiday, Seollal.

The Dongdaemun-gu Social Welfare Council has contributed to spreading a culture of sharing for low-income families every Seollal and Chuseok since 2009. Last year, they also delivered 1,150 bags of Sangju Sambaek rice to extend warmth to marginalized groups.

The delivery ceremony was attended by Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, Park Sang-jong, Chairman of the Dongdaemun-gu Social Welfare Council, Vice Chairman Han Ki-sung, and Vice Chairman Lee Jeom-gu.

The 500 bags of rice received will be distributed on the 23rd to 14 community service centers and delivered to 500 vulnerable households within the district.

Park Sang-jong, Chairman of the Dongdaemun-gu Social Welfare Council, said, “We have been steadily volunteering for Dongdaemun-gu to create a brighter Dongdaemun-gu, and we want to continue contributing to making Dongdaemun-gu better. I hope the love rice we delivered this time will be of some help.”

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, responded, “A single donation can be made easily, but continuing it is never easy. I thank the Dongdaemun-gu Social Welfare Council for practicing donation activities for marginalized neighbors every holiday. The rice you delivered will be given to low-income households in need.”
