A man in his 20s who lured a woman by claiming to be looking for a caregiver for his paralyzed younger sister, then kidnapped and confined her in a pension for two days, has been arrested and handed over to the prosecution.

On the 17th, the Gapyeong Police Station in Gyeonggi Province arrested and sent Mr. A, a man in his 20s, to prosecution on charges including special confinement, according to Yonhap News on the 18th. Mr. A is accused of picking up a woman in her 30s, Ms. B, in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, around 7 p.m. on the 9th, and moving her to a pension in Daeseong-ri, Cheongpyeong-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province, where he confined her for about two days.

Mr. A’s crime was uncovered two days after the incident when an acquaintance who had been in contact with him suspected a crime and reported it to 112. Upon realizing the report, Mr. A hurriedly put Ms. B, who was at the pension, into his vehicle and attempted to flee, but was caught by the police who pursued him. The police found Mr. A at around 5:10 a.m. on the 11th in a vehicle parked in an open field in Cheongpyeong-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, and arrested him on the spot. The victim, Ms. B, was rescued from the front passenger seat, and a weapon used in the crime was found inside the car.

The police determined that Mr. A had thoroughly planned the crime in advance by preparing the weapon and luring the victim with a false high-paying part-time job advertisement. Previously, Mr. A posted a fake part-time job ad on a secondhand trading application titled "Looking for someone to care for a girl with lower body paralysis," offering a daily wage of 600,000 won to lure the victim.

The ad detailed the job duties as "not much work, just chatting and playing, then preparing for sleep, cleaning, and preparing breakfast," and stated, "Urgently hiring due to a sudden dropout." It also added the condition "Preference for young women of the same gender and age as my younger sister," targeting young women as victims.

Police investigation confirmed that Mr. A does not have a younger sister with lower body paralysis. Mr. A lived alone in Seoul without any particular occupation and had no prior criminal record. The police conducted a forensic examination of Mr. A’s mobile phone to check for additional victims but found no further crimes.

A police official told Yonhap News, "To support Ms. B, we connected her with the Sunflower Center and other services for psychological counseling," and cautioned, "When offered unreasonably high wages or unverified information, there is a possibility of fraud or crime, so caution is necessary."
