Lee Haeseon, former Director of Economic and Environmental Affairs of Dangjin City, registered as a preliminary candidate for the People Power Party with the Dangjin City Election Commission on the 16th to run in the April 2nd by-election for the Chungnam Provincial Council, Dangjin City District 2 (Songak, Sinpyeong, Songsan).
After expressing his intention to run last week, Lee has completed his registration as a preliminary candidate and officially entered the election race.
Lee stated, "It is not the right attitude for a politician to step back when the party is facing difficulties," and added, "Through this by-election, I will ensure the People Power Party wins, uniting and harmonizing the party as one."
He continued, "Although I may be at a disadvantage for starting later than another candidate from our party who registered as a preliminary candidate over a month ago, a beautiful primary in which everyone can accept the result is necessary for the unity and harmony of the party," and said, "I respect the primary policy of the Nomination Management and Deliberation Committee."
The Nomination Committee of the People Power Party's Chungnam Provincial Chapter conducted interviews with both candidates (Kim Yeongyeong and Lee Haeseon) on the 15th, decided to select the final candidate through a primary between the two, held a primary briefing on the 16th, and plans to finalize the candidate next week.
Meanwhile, in the April 2nd by-election for the Chungnam Provincial Council, Dangjin City District 2 (Songak, Sinpyeong, Songsan), Koo Bonhyeon of the Democratic Party of Korea, Oh Yunhee of the Progressive Party, and Han Gwanghee of the Cho Guk Innovation Party are each running as their party's sole candidate. Once the People Power Party's candidate is finalized next week, a four-way race is expected to take shape.
