Nine students from the College of Education at Silla University stayed in Osaka, Japan from the 14th to the 25th to enhance their capabilities as future educators through class observations and teaching practice at the local school, aiming to broaden their understanding of multicultural learners and global competencies.

The prospective teachers visiting OKIS are scheduled to participate in various programs including △ observing subject classes and club activities △ conducting Korean language and Korean culture classes △ mentoring sessions with current teachers △ visiting Korea International School in Ibaraki City, spending a meaningful time.

In particular, the teaching demonstrations using diverse media and instructional methods for OKIS students are expected to play a significant role in promoting the Korean language and Korean culture.

Silla University is accelerating efforts to strengthen global educational capabilities and cultivate excellent teachers as a teacher training institution by expanding cooperation not only with OKIS but also with several overseas Korean schools such as Kyoto International Middle and High School.

Choi Woo-sung, a student in the Department of Japanese Education at Silla University who participated in the OKIS visit program, said, “Observing classes and various activities and conducting teaching demonstrations at OKIS, an overseas Korean school, will be a valuable experience to develop the comprehensive competencies required as a teacher,” adding, “I will strive to become a teacher who serves as a bridge for advancing Korea-Japan relations through this program.”

Jung Hae-yong, director of the Global Business Support Center at Silla University and organizer of the program, stated, “This program, which started three years ago as part of building a global regional university network and developing professional talent and practical education programs that meet field demands, is hoped to promote exchanges between the two schools, strengthen the characteristics of a global network hub university, and lead to diversified career paths for College of Education students.”

Silla University plans to continue various supports to strengthen its international education network and help prospective teachers grow into talents with sound character and global competencies.
