Gwangju Dong-gu (District Mayor Lim Taek) announced on the 17th that it will operate the "Dong-gu Mom Taxi" this year, providing practical support for pregnant women and households with infants and young children.
Now in its third year, the "Dong-gu Mom Taxi" program was established to address the inconvenience faced by pregnant women and households with infants and young children when traveling for medical purposes, considering the local characteristic of not having any childbirth medical facilities. The program provides transportation support (taxi fare) for medical outings.
The Dong-gu Mom Taxi, which is also a pledge of the 8th popularly elected administration, initially provided up to 20,000 KRW per month in transportation support when the project was launched in 2023. Since last year, the support has increased to a maximum of 30,000 KRW per month, and the eligible age for infants and young children has expanded from 12 months to 24 months.
As a result, the number of users has increased about threefold compared to the previous year, and in a user satisfaction survey conducted in December last year, the program received a high response, with 86.9% of respondents saying it "helped with transportation for medical purposes."
Based on this positive response, Dong-gu plans to provide a service that satisfies both users and providers by reflecting not only user inconveniences but also on-site feedback from drivers of its partner company, Bitgoeul Call Taxi.
District Mayor Lim Taek said, "We will not be complacent with the current services but will continue to seek improvements for the convenience of users," adding, "We hope this practical support and consideration in daily life will be of real help to pregnant women and households with infants and young children."
