Gyeonggi Province will operate a 24-hour comprehensive situation room by sector during the Lunar New Year holiday and strengthen preemptive measures against heavy snow, cold waves, and fire damage.
On the afternoon of the 16th, Gyeonggi Province held a safety management inspection meeting for the Lunar New Year holiday at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Situation Room, chaired by Kim Seong-jung, the First Deputy Governor for Administration. The meeting was attended via video by heads of safety-related departments and deputy heads of 31 cities and counties to comprehensively review the disaster and safety management status in preparation for the holiday.
During the inspection meeting, discussions were held on 10 major measures including ▲operation of the situation room ▲safety management of local festivals and events ▲heavy snow, cold wave, and snow removal ▲traffic ▲fire prevention ▲operation of emergency medical systems such as emergency rooms ▲emergency quarantine for infectious disease outbreaks ▲quarantine measures to block ASF, AI, and foot-and-mouth disease ▲household waste management ▲and protection and support for vulnerable groups.
To ensure seamless 24-hour disaster situation management, Gyeonggi Province will operate comprehensive situation rooms by sector including livelihood recovery, safety and health, culture and welfare, and transportation and convenience. It will also monitor disaster situations in real time and quickly disseminate information using the disaster safety communication network in case of disaster accidents.
Additionally, safety management for local festivals held during the Lunar New Year period, such as the Anseong-si Dongmakgol Icefish Festival and the Pocheon-si Baegun Valley Dongjanggun Festival, will be inspected. Preemptive measures will also be taken for heavy snow and cold wave risks related to the movement of returning and departing travelers and tourists, including inspections of vulnerable structures and preparations for snow removal.
Gyeonggi Province has also prepared traffic measures, increasing intercity bus operations centered in the Gyeonggi area from the original 287 trips to 425 trips, and plans to extend city and village bus operations by one hour according to the circumstances of each city and county.

For fire prevention, safety inspections will be conducted at multi-use facilities such as traditional markets and logistics warehouses, and an emergency medical system will be activated by operating an emergency medical situation room at public health centers during the holiday period.
To collect household waste during the holiday, a processing task force and a mobile cleaning team will be operated. Support will also be provided to vulnerable groups to ensure they have a warm holiday, including meal support for the homeless, safety checks for vulnerable elderly, and pre-inspections of households with vulnerable disabled persons.
Kim Seong-jung, Deputy Governor for Administration of Gyeonggi Province, said, "This Lunar New Year holiday is expected to last from 6 up to 9 days," and urged, "Please thoroughly establish a resident evacuation system in case of black ice situations and power outages caused by heavy snow."
He added, "Respiratory diseases such as the flu are currently spreading, so please review the emergency medical system in each city and county, identify hospitals that will be open, and promote this information to residents. During this nationally difficult time, public officials must maintain their focus and do their best to ensure that residents can spend a safe and happy time during the Lunar New Year holiday."
