The preparations for the successful hosting of the '2026 Yeosu World Island Expo', which will be held in Yeosu next September, are now in full swing.
Jeollanam-do Province, Yeosu City, and the Yeosu World Island Expo Organizing Committee held the '2026 Yeosu World Island Expo Progress Report Meeting' at the Yeosu Expo Convention Center on the afternoon of the 16th, where they shared key content and gathered ideas tailored to the expectations of visitors.
Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do and Co-Chairman of the Yeosu World Island Expo, Jeong Kimyeong, Mayor of Yeosu, and Park Sookwan, Chairman of YC-TEC Co., Ltd., attended the event. In particular, 40 opinion leaders representing social organizations, the economy, and the cultural sector were invited to share key content and engage in discussions.
The Yeosu Island Expo, which is drawing attention as the world's first island-themed expo, has built a consensus to develop the event into an international gathering that incorporates artificial intelligence technology and participation from all age groups.
Participants showed great interest in future means of island access, such as the demonstration of urban air mobility (UAM) over a 1.3km section connecting Jinmo District, the main venue, to Gyeongdo, and an island tour using a WIG craft linking Geumodo and Yeojaman.
Governor Kim Youngrok said, "It was a meaningful occasion to review progress for the successful hosting of the Island Expo and to consider directions for development together with citizens," adding, "The success of the Island Expo depends on visitor satisfaction, so citizens' opinions and ideas are essential to meet their expectations."
The '2026 Yeosu World Island Expo', an international event approved by the government, will be held from September 5 to November 4, 2026, under the theme 'Connecting Islands, Oceans, and the Future' at Jinmo District in Dolsan-eup, Yeosu World Expo Site, Geumodo in Nam-myeon, and Gaedo in Hwajeong-myeon, Yeosu. The event aims to attract more than 3 million visitors from 30 countries and will operate permanent exhibition halls such as the Main Theme Hall, sub-theme halls showcasing the future, culture, and ecology of islands, joint halls, and the Maritime Bridge Museum.
