Chosun University (President Kim Chunseong) is working with Gwangju Dong-gu District Office to relocate the university campus to the city center and launch the 'CSU Urban Campus,' a project where the private sector, government, and academia collaborate to foster region-specific talent and solve local issues.

According to Chosun University on the 16th, the College of Fine Arts will hold the "Jisan-Hak Art Collaboration Exhibition with Prospective Artists of Chosun University College of Fine Arts" for eight days from the 17th to the 24th.

This exhibition is an art collaboration program where students work with local residents, and local governments, companies, and the university are connected. Students majoring in fine arts and design produced digital content telling the story of "Printing Street" located in Geum-dong, Dong-gu, Gwangju. In addition, through an archive, they present a variety of visual arts by operating goods production, media facade, and exhibition showcases.

Seonam-dong, where Printing Street is located, is a name that originated from the merger in April 1998 of Seoseok-dong, meaning the village under Seoseoksan Mountain, and Namgeum-dong, which came from the south gate of Gwangju Eupseong and Gwangjucheon Stream.

The Printing Street area in Seonam-dong began in the 1940s when printing businesses started to settle around the old Jeonnam Provincial Government Office. As planning and editing companies, plate-making companies, print shops, and paper vendors moved in, a printing industry cluster naturally formed. At one time, it flourished as the center of the printing industry in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region, but after the provincial office moved to Muan, order volume decreased, the old downtown declined, printing technology advanced, and printing companies appeared nationwide, leading to a downturn.

In response, Gwangju Dong-gu District Office is promoting the 'Coworking Space Support' project. Due to the need for printing, food, cultural planning, and designer office and business exchange spaces within the project area, the plan is to create shared office spaces for young designers and to foster the design industry. The location is 153 Geum-dong, Dong-gu, Gwangju, on the third floor of Vitera in Terrace, with a total area of 1,516.24 square meters. Starting in 2025, the coworking space focused on printing, food, cultural planning, and designers will be used as a space for technology and information exchange and business activities for solo entrepreneurs, and will also serve as a book cafe, lounge, meeting room, conference room, and management office in various forms.

Chosun University also plans to establish a "Creative Studio" (tentative name), an urban campus facility of 330 square meters (about 100 pyeong), to support various activities such as creation, education, exhibition, research, development, and production by fine arts students.

Jo Yoonseong, Dean of the Chosun University College of Fine Arts, said, "This exhibition has been prepared as part of the Chosun University Urban Campus Innovation Support Project," and added, "It will provide students with opportunities to participate directly in urban regeneration and revitalization of local commercial districts, enhance their creative problem-solving abilities through local collaboration, and foster convergent thinking across various fields."
