The event was attended by about 90 people, including Mayor Lee Kang-deok, Vice Chairman of the City Council Lee Jae-jin, Chairman of the Pohang City Sports Council Lee Jae-han, and the workplace sports team athletes.

The induction ceremony began with an explanation of this year’s operational direction for the workplace sports team, followed by Mayor Lee Kang-deok and Chairman Lee Jae-han presenting appointment letters to the newly recruited athletes, congratulating and encouraging them as representatives of Pohang City.

The newly joined team this year consists of a total of 34 members: 13 belonging to Pohang City Hall and 21 to the Pohang City Sports Council.

This recruitment was made across various sports such as judo, rowing, athletics, wrestling, and taekwondo, and since each athlete possesses outstanding skills in their respective fields, they are expected to lead a new leap forward in Pohang’s sports.

In particular, the judo team formed a solid lineup by recruiting athletes including Lee Jun-hwan, who won a bronze medal at last year’s Paris Olympics, and the rowing team is expected to inject new vitality into the team by recruiting current national representative Kim Yoo-jin.

Additionally, the recruitment of many promising athletes who have achieved excellent results in national competitions has further strengthened the status and competitiveness of Pohang as an advanced sports city.

Lee Jae-jin, Vice Chairman of the Pohang City Council, said, “Each athlete is a pride and hope of Pohang, and I hope they will contribute to the development of sports as well as bring hope and inspiration to the citizens.”

Lee Jae-han, Chairman of the Pohang City Sports Council, stated, “With this induction ceremony as an opportunity, I hope the team will unite anew, feel pride as representatives of Pohang City, and do their best.”

Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, “The passion and efforts of the workplace sports team athletes will make our Pohang shine even brighter,” and added, “Along with support for the athletes, I ask them to communicate with citizens through talent-sharing volunteer activities for local elementary, middle, and high school student athletes and to do their best to expand the sports base.”

Pohang City plans to support the newly formed team through this induction ceremony so that they can achieve outstanding results not only in Pohang but also nationwide and on the global stage.
