Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dong-Eui Science University Conducts Winter Field Ambulance Training

Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Young-do) Department of Emergency Medical Services has been conducting winter ambulance field training in cooperation with the Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters from the 13th of last month until February 9th.

This training involves 39 second-year EMS students who participate to experience pre-hospital emergency care and patient transport processes, aiming to enhance their practical skills. Students gain hands-on experience in patient assessment and treatment, equipment use and management by riding along in ambulances, providing them with opportunities to strengthen their on-site response capabilities.

The winter ambulance field training is conducted at 12 fire stations and 37 safety centers within the Busan area. Trainees comply with a minimum of 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week of training, gaining diverse field experience including ▲emergency patient condition assessment ▲emergency treatment and patient transport ▲learning ambulance equipment usage ▲performing ambulance administrative tasks.

Notably, a pre-training session was held on the 10th before the practical training. This session was provided as a talent donation by EMS paramedic Ko Sang-jin (a graduate of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, class of 2015), currently working at Gyeongnam Fire Department, and EMS paramedic Kim Young-sil from Busan Fire Department. Based on their field experience, the two paramedics taught practical emergency treatment skills and response methods, offering students a practice-oriented curriculum.

Second-year EMS student Shin Ji-hye said, “Through the pre-training, I was able to specifically understand how to respond in the field,” and added, “It was very helpful in developing critical judgment skills during emergency treatment.”

EMS paramedic Ko Sang-jin from Gyeongnam Fire Department stated, “As a senior, I felt rewarded to be able to help juniors develop their field response skills,” and said, “I hope the students will nurture even bigger dreams through this training.”

The Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology achieved a 100% pass rate on the national qualification exam for all graduates this year and continues to focus on strengthening major courses tailored to field duties and developing curricula through collaboration with field experts, aiming to cultivate emergency medical professionals.
