Jungnangcheon and Danghyeoncheon Confluence Meeting Plaza 'Nowon Dumulmaru' Officially Opens on the 23rd

Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it has created 'Nowon Dumulmaru,' a healing spot for local residents and visitors at the confluence of Jungnangcheon and Danghyeoncheon called the 'Meeting Plaza.'

According to last year's survey measuring the number of visitors to the stream, the Meeting Plaza at Jungnangcheon attracts about 78,000 visitors per month on average, making it a popular walking course. Although it is a space with excellent natural scenery and frequently used by residents as a walking path, there have been complaints about the lack of resting areas.

This demand was also confirmed in a resident survey conducted during the creation of Dumulmaru. Among 357 residents who use the Meeting Plaza, 71% responded that "it would be good to have sales facilities."

Additionally, 29% expressed the opinion that "an indoor resting space should be larger."

Reflecting these resident opinions, Nowon-gu utilized the idle land on the upper embankment of the stream to provide a convenience store and caf? where local residents can enjoy simple snacks by the riverside, and created various resting spaces such as an observatory and shelters.

The core facility of Dumulmaru is a shelter designed as a single-story container structure. The shelter offers a total of 113 seats, including 25 indoor seats, 40 rooftop seats, and 48 outdoor terrace seats. Both indoor and outdoor spaces can be used, allowing visitors to enjoy the area regardless of season or weather.

In particular, the rooftop observatory above the shelter is designed as the optimal place to enjoy panoramic views of Jungnangcheon.

The shelter also houses a caf? and convenience store to enhance visitors' enjoyment. The caf? sells 17 types of coffee and tea, as well as desserts, while the convenience store offers seasonal snacks such as snacks, Hangang ramen, and roasted sweet potatoes.

Nowon Dumulmaru will officially open on January 23, with operating hours flexibly adjusted according to the season. During winter, it will operate from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and during summer, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The district has previously created various healing spaces utilizing abundant green resources such as Bulamsan and Suraksan Mountains. Starting this year, it plans to actively expand healing spaces centered around four major streams in the area, aiming to provide residents with new leisure and rest opportunities by leveraging the natural scenery of the streams.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, "The point where Jungnangcheon and Danghyeoncheon meet has been reborn as a new healing spot for residents and visitors," adding, "I hope Dumulmaru, where the two waters merge, becomes a special place where neighbors can communicate and enjoy relaxation."
